Andrews-Smith Wedding

After getting engaged in early January this year, we decided 'why wait!?' and, agreeing we both wanted a winter wedding, set the date for 23rd November 2019 💍❤️

Being massive nerds, we decided to incorporate our favourite things including dinosaurs, dragon age and D&D! They were also all things that had special meaning to us in our relationship, having bonded over our love for all of them very early on.

Our colour scheme was a subtle nod to Captain Marvel (navy, burgundy and gold) and our wedding stationery, table plan and table names were all dragon age inspired with each table named after one of the factions. I designed all the wedding stationery and made vectors for the faction logos, getting them all professionally printed to give them that extra special finish. I handmade the table plan, made to look like a map of Thedas, drawing it out with fineliner pens and using the traditional tea and coffee staining method to give it a weathered look. I used wooden pinboard pins (carefully removing the metal and spray painting them gold) for map markers with thin burgundy ribbon to match the marker to the table list. Each table list was printed on cardstock and tea stained to match the map before being mounted on hand-marbled black paper. For the finishing touch, I melted red wax onto the map and used a dragon stamp seal for each list.

I walked down the aisle to 'Journey to Skyhold' from Dragon Age: Inquisition and we exited after the ceremony to the Avengers theme (most of our guests recognised this one!).

Our cake toppers were dinosaurs, my earrings were dinosaurs and the groomsmen's ties, pocket squares and cufflinks had dinosaur designs. We also gave out tiny gold dinosaurs to all our guests as wedding favours. We both had gold fingers from spray-painting them all for days!! Thankfully we were sensible enough to do this well in advance of the wedding.

I also made a little tie for the dinosaur groom from the same fabric as my husband and his groomsmen's ties and using some scrap tulle and beads, made a veil for the dinosaur bride.

To add another personal touch, I handmade over 140 ribbon flowers and combined these with artificial leaves and a small number of artificial flowers to make my bouquet, hair accessory, the bridesmaid's bouquets, the buttonholes (for my husband, groomsmen and our mums) and for our table decorations. I'm really pleased with how it all came out, even more so for the amount of money it saved us given the high cost of fresh cut flowers in winter!

We had a lot of fun planning it all, and I had even more fun crafting everything. It was an absolutely incredible day and we are so glad we had the freedom and support from our families to make the day our own. I think they enjoyed it, dinosaurs and all, too 😉
